Roadside Assist

No one ever said being a street-side guide was an easy job. Many tourists are put off by the idea of driving around a city on their own and experiencing it firsthand. But with Roadside Assist, you can get behind the wheel and observe the city from the driver’s seat. There are two types of assistance offered with Roadside Assist: live assistance and on-demand assistance. With live assistance, you can request assistance at any time by dialing 1-800-ROUTE-1 (available 24/7). With on-demand assistance, you can set up a request and then get directions when you’re ready to go.

Street View

Google Maps now has Street View, which allows you to take a virtual tour of any place you’re interested in. Start by tapping the place you want to explore, and then tap the “+” icon in the bottom-right corner of the map to add to the tour. You can choose between panoramic or Street View views, and see what your surroundings look like from every angle.

Live Marker Data

This new feature is meant for commercial real estate listings, but it has some pretty handy uses for everyone. With live market data, you can see the exact location of every sign, light, and structure in a map view of your area.

Delegate Driving

If you do a lot of driving and take risks with the traffic, you might want to check out the Delegate Driving feature. This lets you give yourself a pass and let others take the wheel while still retaining control of your car.

In-Neighborhood Routing

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to get around town, in-neighborhood routing is a great way to go. Just select a neighborhood on the map, and you’ll be taken to the neighborhood information page where you can see local businesses, attractions, and transportation options. From there, you can pick and choose which route you’d like to follow to get to your destination.

Walk Score Integration

Another new feature that Google Maps just implemented is Walk Score integration. This means that when you’re looking at a place on the map and see a green “Walk Score” icon, that means you have an average of 60-100 meters (1/4-3/4 of a mile) to most places of interest in your area. This is great for when you’re looking for a quick and easy way to explore a new city.
